The purpose of this site is to introduce Maurice and Esther Dartigue and their work to those who have no familiarity with them, while for those who know something of their lives and careers, it will, hopefully, be informative and a pleasant stroll. Publications include:

Maurice Dartigue

Maurice Dartigue was born in 1903 in the town of Les Cayes in southwestern Haiti, the son of Régina (Duperval) and Jean Baptiste Dartigue, a prominent attorney, a one-time Governor of the South, and Minister of Agriculture and Public Works, which is what brought the family to Port-au-Prince.

Esther Dartigue

Esther Reithoffer Dartigue was born in the town of Vizakna, in the Transylvanian Alps of Hungary, and came to the U.S. at age five. The family settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where it soon fell into poverty. She left home at the age of 11 to pursue her secondary-school education and beyond, supporting herself as a domestic.
